Goodlander restores federal TRIO funding
NASHUA - After 17 months of lobbying, Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander (D-NH) and her colleagues on Capitol Hill have successfully restored funding for the 10 federal TRIO programs in New Hampshire. TRIO’s future was threatened in February 2025 after President Donald Trump cut $1.2 billion from the U.S. Department of Education. During her Oct. 21 visit to Nashua High School North, Goodlander told students that TRIO funding, which was approved by Congress, had been “held up for bad reasons.” “I am relieved that the life-changing work of New Hampshire’s TRIO Upward Bound programs will continue uninterrupted,” she said. “But for the second year in a row, the Department of Education has created needless chaos by slow-rolling funding that is a genuine lifeline for New Hampshire students and educators.
