Patriots have fired head coach Jerod Mayo
FOXBOROUGH,Mass. -- The New England Patriots have announced they have fired head coach Jerod Mayo. Patriots owner Robert Kraft issued a statement about 90 minutes following the team's win over Buffalo at Gillette Stadium, the season ending at 4-13. "After the game today I informed Jerod Mayo he will not be returning as head coach of the New England Patriots in 2025. For me personally it was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made." Mayo was elevated from a defensive assistant's role almost a year ago yo succeed Bill Belichick. But after winning the season opener at Cincinnati, the season resulted in a series of missteps that culminated with last weekend's 40-7 loss here to the Los Angeles Chargers that had fans chanting "Fire Mayo!" And this evening, the Patriots did just that.
