Greater Nashua Flashback

By Staff | Oct 9, 2021

From The Telegraph files This photo doesn't go as far back as most that appear in this space each week, but since it depicts one of Nashua's most iconic variety stores, and does go back almost 35 years, it makes the cut. While most employees of Jeannotte's markets going back to its original location on Chestnut Street around 1900 were known to years worth of customers, the woman second from right with the big smile was perhaps the most recognizable for many years, especially young folks who crowded around the small ice cream shop in the 1960s through the early 80s. She's Gertrude Davidson, known simply as "Gertrude" to even the youngest of her customers. With Gertrude in this photo are, from left, then-employee Paul Bergeron; Florence Jeannotte, widow of longtime owner Norman Jeannotte; then-owner Mike Fair; Gertrude; and Jules Moquin, another longtime employee.
