Nashua Public Library to host veterans celebration

By Staff | Nov 1, 2023

NASHUA – The Nashua Public Library is hosting its first Veterans Day Celebration to honor those who have served and are currently serving in the U.S. military. This free, family-friendly event will take place on Nov. 4 from 2 to 3:30 pm in the library’s Chandler Wing.

The celebration was inspired in part by the outpouring of pictures and stories that the library’s Salute to Service display generated in 2022.

“Last year our small flag display had a bigger community impact than we expected,” said Holly Klump, assistant librarian of Programming and Marketing. “We wanted to expand how we express our thanks to veterans this year.”

This year’s celebration will feature free popcorn, live music by the New Hampshire Brass Quartet, miniature military vehicles on display by Granite State Modelers Club, a sneak peek of the Nashua Historical Society’s World War II oral history project, military photos from the library’s local history collection, an art table to make buttons honoring veterans and cards for the Holiday Cards for the Military Challenge.

Several veterans organizations will also be on hand including the American Legion James E. Coffey Post 3, the Nashua VFW Post 483, the Veterans Administration, the AmeriCorps Senior Companion Program and the Stronger Together Veterans Coalition of New Hampshire.

“Stop by and talk to us and see if we can help you or if you feel you want to join our ranks,” said Lewis Chipola, service officer of Nashua VFW Post 483. “We always like to talk to veterans.”
