Merrimack man head-butts Hollis cop during arrest
HOLLIS – Jeffrey Yule, 40, of Merrimack, allegedly head-butted a Hollis police officer while being placed under arrest for domestic violence on the evening of Jan. 6.
According to police, officers responded to an address on Wright Road at approximately 8 p.m. for a report of a physical altercation between Yule and an unidentified woman.
Fearing for her personal safety, the woman had reportedly barricaded herself in the bathroom, waiting for police to arrive.
After speaking with the woman and Yule, officers determined that Yule had initiated the domestic assault and put him in handcuffs.
Yule then allegedly became “belligerent and aggressive,” head-butting one of the officers in the face. The officer was not injured and was evaluated by Hollis firefighters as a precaution. Police also reported that Yule had attempted to kick the officers and thrash around, which prompted police to take him to the ground.
“Such behaviors as demonstrated by Yule show the unpredictable and dangerous nature of policing,” said Hollis Police Capt. Brendan LaFlamme. “We are grateful that our officers acted with such professionalism and with great restraint in taking the appropriate action to further prevent aggressive behaviors towards them and the victim in this domestic violence incident.”
Yule was later released on a $250 cash bail and will be arraigned at a later date in the Ninth Circuit Nashua District Division Court.
Yule has been charged with domestic violence, simple assault and resisting arrest/detention.
All charges are Class A misdemeanors. Therefore, under state law, Yule could face up to one year in prison if convicted.
