NH Liquor Commission and Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey to host Bring Back Jack recycling program
CONCORD – The New Hampshire Liquor Commission and Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey are once again encouraging consumers to Bring Back Jack this Earth Month.
Each Saturday from April 6 to May 11, customers can return and recycle empty glass wine and spirits bottles at select Liquor and Wine Outlet locations for exclusive product incentives.
A first-of-its-kind recycling initiative, the NHLC and Jack Daniel’s initially launched Bring Back Jack in April 2023. Hundreds of consumers and on-premise licensees returned empty glass bottles throughout last year’s program, resulting in more than 34,000 pounds of glass collected and recycled into new glass bottles for beverages.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with Jack Daniel’s, the best-selling whiskey brand in the world, to launch our second Bring Back Jack recycling program in New Hampshire,” said NHLC Chairman Joseph Mollica. “NHLC is continually looking for new ways to incorporate environmentally friendly practices within our 65 Outlet locations and Bring Back Jack is yet another example of that emphasis. Not only does this program allow our customers to save on New Hampshire Liquor and Wine Outlet purchases, but it also gives them the chance to make a difference this Earth Month.”
Customers who bring at least 12 empty glass wine or spirits bottles to select Outlet locations will receive $25 off a purchase of $150 or more at Liquor and Wine Outlet locations. Additionally, New Hampshire bar and restaurant owners who recycle at least 107 empty glass bottles, an ode to Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7, will receive 10 percent off an in-store purchase up to $10,000.
Bring Back Jack is the latest evolution of the NHLC’s ongoing partnership with Brown-Forman, one of the largest American-owned spirits and wine companies. In 2016, the NHLC and Brown-Forman launched its award-winning Live Free and Host Responsibly program to promote responsible service and consumption of alcohol.
“Our efforts to responsibly steward everything from the water that makes our whiskey to the wood that makes our barrels is something we take extra pride in at Jack Daniel’s,” said Jack Daniel’s Marketing Manager Robin Thompson. “We are excited to once again partner with the New Hampshire Liquor Commission on this innovative glass recycling campaign as part of our commitment to circularity.”
This program allows customers to easily recycle glass bottles that would otherwise end up in a landfill. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the glass recycling percentage in the United States is only 31 percent, although glass can be recycled endlessly. Additionally, approximately 7.6 million tons of non-recycled glass waste go into American landfills each year, which is about five percent of all waste.
All glass bottles collected throughout the six-week program will be transported to Recycleworks, a state-of-the-art processing facility dedicated to a zero-waste future for the food and beverage industry. At Recycleworks, the bottles will be crushed into glass cullet and will then be used to generate new glass bottles for beverages.
Bring Back Jack events will take place from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. at the following Liquor & Wine Outlet locations:
April 6 – Manchester Liquor and Wine Outlet (68 Elm St.)
April 13 – Nashua Liquor and Wine Outlet (25 Coliseum Ave.)
April 20 – West Lebanon Liquor and Wine Outlet (265 North Plainfield Rd.)
April 27 – Portsmouth Liquor and Wine Outlet (605 US-1 BYP South)
May 4 – Concord Liquor and Wine Outlet (11 Merchants Way)
May 11 – Tilton Liquor and Wine Outlet (80 Market St.)
During the past decade, the NHLC has renovated or constructed 40 Liquor and Wine Outlet locations in 36 communities – all designed to LEED specifications. To minimize energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and its overall carbon footprint, all Liquor and Wine Outlet locations have been built to ensure site sustainability and water efficiency and utilize sustainable and high-efficiency materials and equipment where possible. In addition the NHLC recycles cardboard and plastic packaging material across its 65 Outlet locations.
