NASHUA – Stephen Welch, 35, of Nashua, was arrested on April 28 after he allegedly brandished a gun during an altercation at Vybez Restaurant on East Hollis Street.

According to police, officers arrived at the restaurant at 9:11 p.m. A male victim, whose identity has not been released, reportedly told police that Welch demanded that he “empty his pockets.” The victim said Welch then proceeded to grab him by the shirt. As the victim tried to defend himself, Welch allegedly pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed it at the victim and other witnesses.

After further interviews, witnesses confirmed that Welch pointed the gun in their direction.

The victim did not wish to press charges regarding the attempted armed robbery. However, according to witnesses, Welch created an element of fear by pointing the gun in their direction and in the direction of traffic on East Hollis Street.

Under state law, if convicted, Welch could face up to seven years in prison, five years of probation and a fine of up to $4,000.

Welch was released on personal recognizance and will be arraigned in the Ninth Circuit Nashua District Division Court on June 13.
