Tyngsborough Police to host overdose awareness vigil on Sept. 14

By Staff | Aug 31, 2024

TYNGSBOROUGH, Mass. — Police Chief Richard Howe recently announced that the Tyngsborough Police Department will be hosting the town’s inaugural Overdose Awareness Vigil: Light the Night.

“I hope the community will come together to offer support and remembrance of those lost to substance abuse when we come together for the first time at this event,” said Howe. “Most families have been affected by substance abuse and by coming together we hope that we can honor those lost, but also support survivors and raise awareness of this national epidemic.”

The event will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Old Town Hall, 10 Kendall Rd.

The vigil will feature touching speeches, live music, remembrance activities and an opportunity for reflection. Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan will deliver the keynote address.

Remembrance activities will include a reading of names and a slideshow dedicated to loved ones affected by substance use disorder.

Participants are invited to submit names for the reading or photos for the slideshow by emailing Regional Public Health Specialist Siobhan LaFreniere at slafreniere@tewksbury-ma.gov.

Purple flags will be provided by the Health Department for attendees to inscribe names, symbolizing remembrance and solidarity.
