Five international artists engage Boys & Girls Club in artistic expression
NASHUA – The Culture and Mural Festival, hosted by the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua, recently brought together five artists to work with youth to create three murals around the club’s facility.
The goal of the festival was to create a sense of vibrancy and warmth to help every child feel welcome.
During the weeklong event, held from Aug. 20-27, club members and artists were invited to showcase their cultures through music, storytelling and artistic expression.
Cristhian Londoño, Cultural Arts director at BGCN, worked with four other artists from Colombia and Honduras to engage the club’s youth in the mural design and painting process. The artists included J. Daniel Correa Osorio, Sebastian Jiménez, Edgar Zelaya and Jorge Gallo.
Children and teenagers gave input into the subjects of the murals, giving them a sense of pride and ownership in the improvements at the club. In addition to the murals, youth learned unique artistic methods from the artists while learning about their cultures.
