Academy for Science and Design named Blue Ribbon School
NASHUA – The Academy for Science and Design was one of 356 schools in the country to be recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School for its exceptional efforts to close the achievement gap in English and mathematics.
This is the second time that ASD has garnered a blue ribbon since Jennifer Cava became the school’s director 15 years ago.
“We’re proud to be recognized for cultivating an environment where all students can thrive, particularly in STEM-focused subjects,” said Cava. “This award affirms ASD’s dedication to our students and inspires us to continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible for every learner.”
Since ASD was founded in 2007, the student population has boomed, going from 30 students to 675 students.
The school’s STEM-based curriculum begins with “broad exploration” on the middle school level and gradually becomes more specialized for high school students.
The school will be formally honored in November at the National Blue Ribbon Schools awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.
ASD is one of two schools in New Hampshire to receive this honor. The Bernice A. Ray Elementary School in Hanover was also recognized as a Blue Ribbon School.
“As New Hampshire strives to engage its students and collaborate among its educators, these two schools are creating unique opportunities for student learning that are committed to fostering academic success,” said state Education Commissioner Frank Edelblut. “We congratulate them for their commitment to excellence.”
Founded in 1982 under the U.S. Department of Education, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has recognized more than 9,000 schools for excellence in education.
“The National Blue Ribbon Schools Award is a testament to the exceptional achievements of students and educators at each of these schools,” said U.S. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona. “The 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools are raising the bar for our nation’s students, serving as models for effective teaching and intentional collaboration in their schools and communities. As we celebrate their achievements, let us look to these schools for inspiration as we champion education as the foundation of a brighter future for every child.”
