MERRIMACK – Matthew Caruso, 28, of Merrimack, was recently taken into custody in connection with a series of motor vehicle offenses.

According to the Merrimack Police Department, Caruso was pulled over for a traffic stop on Sept. 23. However, he allegedly refused to stop and fled from the officer, who elected not to engage in a pursuit.

Police also learned that Caruso has several outstanding warrants in both New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Ten days later, Caruso was spotted again by the same officer. This time, the license plate and the vehicle did not match.

According to police, Caruso once again refused to stop and fled, reaching speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.

On Oct. 5, police found Caruso at Extended Stay America in Merrimack where he was placed under arrest without incident.

He has been charged with operating as a habitual offender, disobeying a police officer, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and misuse of plates.

Caruso refused the services of a bail commissioner and was held at the Hillsborough County Department of Corrections. He was scheduled to be arraigned in Merrimack District Court on Oct. 7.

Under state law, if convicted, Caruso could face up to eight years in prison, up to five years probation and up to $6,000 in fines.
