CT woman charged with shoplifting at Merrimack Outlets
MERRIMACK – Gwendolyn Chambers of Hartford, Conn. was taken into custody on Nov. 2 in connection with a shoplifting incident at the Merrimack Premium Outlets.
According to the Merrimack Police Department, officers responded to Polo Ralph Lauren at 7:53 p.m. Upon arrival, police allegedly found Chambers to be in possession of “several stolen items,” which were hidden in her bag.
Further investigation revealed that Chambers had been involved in a theft at the same store four years ago and was prohibited from ever coming back. According to police, the Nov. 2 incident puts her in violation of the trespass order that was filed against her in 2020.
After Chambers was taken into custody, police reportedly found more than $1,000 in merchandise and a theft detection device remover.
She has been charged with theft by unauthorized taking, criminal trespass and possession of a theft detection device remover.
Under state law, if convicted, Chambers could face up to seven years in prison, up to five years of probation and up to $5,200 in fines.
She was released on personal recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Merrimack District Court on Nov. 21.
