Ash Street fight results in two arrests as five-year-old looks on

NASHUA – Nery Virella, 39, and Mayda Virella, 43, both of Nashua, were taken into custody on Nov. 27 in connection with an altercation that resulted in gunfire.

According to the Nashua Police Department, officers responded to 52 Ash St. on Nov. 26. Upon arrival, they were told that a group had gathered to confront an unidentified male and female. Within that group, Nery Virella and Mayda Virella were reportedly armed.

During the altercation, four shots were allegedly fired; however, no injuries were reported.

Further investigation revealed that Nery Virella’s five-year-old daughter was present throughout the incident. Detectives later recovered a loaded gun from the child’s playpen.

Nery Virella is charged with being an accomplice to attempted first degree assault, reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, criminal threatening with a deadly weapon, felonious use of firearm, riot and seven counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Nery Virella was released on personal recognizance and is scheduled to be arraigned in Nashua District Court on Jan. 8, 2025.

Under state law, if convicted, she could face up to 50 years in prison, up to 25 years of probation and up to $34,000 in fines.

Mayda Virella is charged with attempted first degree assault, reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, criminal threatening with a deadly weapon, felonious use of firearm and riot.

She was held on preventative detention and was scheduled to be arraigned in Nashua District Court on Nov. 29.

Under state law, if convicted, Mayda Virella could face up to 43 years in prison, up to 25 years of probation and up to $20,000 in fines.

In May 2019, Mayda Virella was charged with two counts of domestic violence-simple assault. Five months later, Nery Virella was arrested by Amherst Police and charged with theft.
