Londonderry man accused of endangering family with shotgun
LONDONDERRY – Richard Currie, 62, of Londonderry, was taken into custody on the evening of Nov. 30 after allegedly pointing a shotgun at a woman and her four young children.
According to the Londonderry Police Department, the victim, whose identity has not been released, told officers that while driving, she saw Currie walking in the middle of Rockingham Road armed with a shotgun. The victim then reportedly told police that Currie pointed the gun at her vehicle.
Upon arriving at 231 Rockingham Rd., officers located Currie, who told them that “several people had just broken into his residence on Stokes Road.” He also said he fired the gun multiple times inside his home.
Officers later reported that Currie appeared intoxicated and that he also admitted to using illegal drugs.
After an investigation of Currie’s home, police determined that there was no evidence of a burglary or home invasion. However, they allegedly found two shotgun shells.
Currie was taken to Parkland Medical Center in Derry to be evaluated. He was then held on preventative detention at the Rockingham County House of Corrections.
He was arraigned on Dec. 2 and is being held on a $1,000 cash bail.
Currie is charged with five counts of reckless conduct with a firearm, two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, criminal threatening with a firearm and disorderly conduct.
Under state law, if convicted, Currie could face up to 57 years in prison, up to 40 years of probation and up to $32,000 in fines.
