CONCORD – Desiree Charter, 38, of Nashua, was taken into custody on the evening of Dec. 15 after allegedly trying to evade State Police.

According to State Police, troopers attempted to stop Charter, who was driving a Chevrolet Equinox, at 10:22 p.m. for lane control violations in Concord. In response, Charter allegedly sped up and continued to violate lane control laws.

According to police, Charter almost struck another vehicle on Interstate 89 north. Troopers were able to deploy a spike strip which deflated Charter’s tires. However, she continued to flee for another mile before crashing into the right guardrail.

Charter allegedly continued to ignore troopers’ commands, thus prompting a 20-minute standoff before she ultimately surrendered to police.

After further investigation, troopers discovered that Charter had fled from Concord Police earlier in the evening; however, Concord officers ended that pursuit in the interest of public safety.

Charter has been charged with reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, driving after being deemed a habitual offender, subsequent possession of a controlled drug, aggravated DUI, driving under the influence and disobeying an officer.

Under state law, if convicted, she could face up to 28 years in prison, up to five years of probation, up to $56,750 in fines and having her driver’s license suspended for up to two years.

Charter is scheduled to appear in Concord District Court on Jan. 10, 2025.
