Alima Deen

Nashua teen, Deen, awarded scholarship: MONTEZUMA, N.M. – Alima Deen has received a scholarship to continue her high school education at the United World College-Red Cross Nordic in Haugland, Norway.

The daughter of Sheik Alie and Sowdatu Deen from Nashua, Alima recently completed her junior year at Bishop Guertin High School.

She has always had a passion for helping others and creating change, so she is looking forward to engaging with, learning from and understanding different people and their cultures.

Alima was among 60 U.S. students selected for the merit-based Davis Scholarships.

UWC is an international high school for 16- to 19-year-olds with 18 campuses worldwide whose mission is to unite cultures through education, thus creating a peaceful, sustainable world. UWC students represent up to 90 countries at some campuses; many come from conflict regions.

UWC offers the international baccalaureate, a two-year pre-university program that is the most widely recognized secondary school diploma in the world.

Applicants for Davis Scholarships must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and be either 16 or 17 years old on Sept. 1 of the year they intend to enroll. Additional non-scholarship students may also be selected. These students will be offered partial or no financial support. Dec. 1 is the application deadline. University of Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama awarded some 5,860 degrees during its spring commencement ceremonies April 30-May 2.

Local graduates include:

Andrew Gillis of Hollis. Gillis has received the following degree from The University of Alabama: Bachelor of Arts in Communication & Information Sciences.

Dillon Rozen of Bedford. Rozen has received the following degree from The University of Alabama: Bachelor of Science in Human Environmental Sciences.

Nazareth College

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The following local students were named to the Nazareth College Spring 2021 dean’s list:

Nora Savage of Sharon is studying Undeclared.

Amber Schaffer of Amherst is studying Public Health.

A student’s grade point average must be at least 3.5 or above, and they must complete 12 credit hours of graded work that semester in order to be included on the dean’s list at Nazareth.

Cedarville University

CEDARVILLE – The following students were named to the dean’s honor list at Cedarville University for spring semester 2021. This recognition requires the student to obtain a 3.75 GPA or higher for the semester and carry a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Clarkson University

POTSDAM, N.Y. – Clarkson University awarded nearly 750 bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees to students from 26 states, 19 countries and 52 New York state counties at its spring 2021 commencement in May. This ceremony also recognized the 280 August and December 2020 graduates.

Michael John Giraldi of Bedford received a bachelor of science with great distinction in mechanical engineering, computer science minor, mathematics minor.

Robert Daniel Brockway of Bedford received a bachelor of science with great distinction in engineering and management, honors program, project management minor.

Cary J. E. Lee of Bedford received a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering.

Jacob Matthew DeAngelis of Bedford received a bachelor of science with great distinction in chemical engineering, honors program.

Noah R. Bell of Peterborough received a bachelor of science with great distinction in electrical engineering, mathematics minor.

Andy Zachary Cook of Brookline received a master of science in data analytics, from Clarkson University on Dec. 31, 2020.

Phi Kappa Phi

BATON ROUGE, La. – The following people recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

Evan Fagan of Merrimack at Plymouth State University.

Lauren Smith of Nashua at Plymouth State University.

They are among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

University of Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah congratulates more than 8,700 students who were named to the spring 2021 dean’s list. To qualify, students must earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher in at least 12 graded credit hours during any one term.

Local students named to the Spring 2021 Dean’s List include:

Quade Bell of Amherst, whose major is listed as Pre Chemistry BS.

Rachael Noble of Bedford, whose major is listed as Mechanical Eng. BME.

Jessica Rioux of Bedford, whose major is listed as Health and Kinesiology BS.

Bryant University

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University has announced the Commencement Award winners for the Class of 2021. A longstanding Bryant tradition, Commencement Awards recognize graduating seniors for their distinguished achievements and contributions in several categories including academic excellence, leadership, and service. This year, 42 students will receive awards. These high-achieving students are among more than 800 graduates who have successfully completed their Bryant University studies and were awarded Bachelor’s degrees at the 158th Undergraduate Commencement Ceremonies on May 22.

In the category of academic excellence and achievement, Katherine Tibbitts of Merrimack will receive the Northeast Human Resources Association Management Department Commencement Award. This award recognizes three graduating seniors with a concentration in Human Resources Management. These individuals have demonstrated academic excellence in HRM, active engagement with human resources practitioners, and a passion for a career in the profession.

Tibbitts will graduate with honors (Magna Cum Laude) with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with a concentration in Human Resource Management.
