HUDSON — A single-vehicle crash involving a 2021 Subaru Impreza, a rock wall and a utility pole just before midnight Friday landed the driver, Hudson resident Shawn Dardas, in Southern New Hampshire Medical Center for treatment of injuries that police said weren’t considered life-threatening.

Following an on-scene investigation, police said officers charged Dardas, 40, with driving under the influence and an open container violation.

Officers, firefighters and medical personnel were summoned to the area of 148 Belknap Road, which is several houses south of the Central Street-Belknap Road intersection and just north of Gordon Street, for a report of a rollover crash involving a utility pole.

Arriving personnel found the heavily damaged Impreza on its side, where it came to rest after the driver, identified as Dardas, drifted off the travel lane, causing the Impreza to strike a rock wall and roll onto its roof, police said.

The vehicle slid on its roof into the utility pole, causing significant damage to both the vehicle and the pole, police said. After striking the pole, the Impreza came to rest on the driver’s side.

Medical personnel treated Dardas at the scene, then transported him to the hospital. Officers then charged him with the DUI and open container offenses.

The Impreza was towed from the scene. Police didn’t indicate whether the collision with the pole caused residents of the area to lose power.

They said the investigation into the incident remains active, and they urge anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has additional information to contact either Officer Raymond LaFortune or Officer Nicholas Collishaw at 886-6011.
