Nashua Goes Back to School event is today
The 18th annual Nashua Goes Back to School event will start at 5 p.m. today on the grounds of the Nashua Public Library, 2 Court St.
More than 30 local agencies will be on hand for this year’s event, which assists Nashua School District children of all ages with supplies and information for their families. Organizers will be giving out 1,500 bags of supplies, which includes folders, crayons, glue sticks, pencils, dry-erase markers and much more.
On Tuesday, more than three dozen volunteers gathered at the library to pack the bags for the event. The Nashua Lions Club, Retired & Senior Volunteer Program and students assisted in what has become a well-oiled machine over the past 17 years.
The event, which has been in the works for months, is popular with local families and signals the start of school, which is Aug. 30.
This year, Randi Weingarten, the president of the American Federation of Teachers will be in attendance.
Also featured will be the Nashua Lions Club, who will be doing free vision screenings.
Sponsors of the event include: the city of Nashua, the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce, the Nashua Lions Club, Bellavance Beverage Co., Nashua Wallpaper Co./ACE Hardware, the Nash Foundation, Southern New Hampshire Health, Law Family Companies, Redman & Savoie CPA’s, Able Moving and Storage, Oracle, Brady Sullivan Properties, SL Chasse Steel and the Brian S.
