Nancy Cooney Kolb

Nancy Cooney Kolb died of natural causes in her own bed in Atlantic Beach, Florida on April 26, 2021, with several of her children at her side. She was 91 years old. We are grateful that she had such a long life, filled with many adventures and pleasures, including a 48-year marriage to her high school sweetheart, Ed Kolb. Born on January 10, 1930 in Buffalo, New York to Eunice Packard Cooney and Edwin Robert Cooney, Nancy graduated from Cornell University in 1952, and in 1953 married Edwin Richard Kolb, also of Buffalo. Nancy was known for her gentle charm and sweet disposition, cornerstones of her personality which stayed with her throughout her life. Her understated but clever wit hinged on her great skill with words and continued to make us laugh till the end. Over her long life she maintained written correspondence with many friends and family. She was very social, eager for each new day’s activities. Nancy was spontaneous and loved the sensory world of scent, birdsong, music and water. She is survived by her brother Edwin Robert Cooney, Jr. “Bob”, her sister-in-law Sister Maryann Kolb SSJ, her children Kathleen Kolb (Paul Forlenza), Thomas Kolb (Ellen Galarneau Kolb), James Kolb (Jill Seth Kolb), Barbara Kolb Schuman (Michael Schuman), Christopher Kolb (Shannon O’Connor Kolb) and Paula Kolb Hemingway (Amos Hemingway). She has seventeen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She has eight nephews and nieces. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00, June 15 at St John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2400 Mayport Rd, Atlantic Beach, FL, with burial at Maple Cemetery, Lincoln, Vermont June 26-27.
