Sylvia G. (Colburn) Smith
Sylvia, 89 years young, passed peacefully November 25, 2021, from the progression of Lewy Body Dementia. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Bill Quigley, her grandson Russell Matheson and his wife Mandy. She also leaves her granddaughters Tammy and Boo, their children and grandchildren; two brothers, Floyd “Tunk” Colburn and Stanley Colburn, as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Vernon Charles Smith, who passed in 2002, and son, Edgar Charles Smith, who passed in 2017.
Sylvia worked her way through training and spent 42 years as an excellent registered nurse. She was an accomplished knitter, who sincerely loved and valued her family, friends, home, career, red Slurpees and whoopie pies. Her life was “wonderful”.
While she is known to have used bad language approximately ten times during her life, she epitomized love, kindness, honesty, integrity and strength. She was a remarkable woman who will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
To respect and honor her wishes, there will be no services. Sylvia will be laid to rest with Vern. It is also respectfully requested all refrain from sending cards, flowers or gifts.
Donna and Bill wish to thank all who were part of Sylvia’s life and legacy. There are no words to fittingly thank her family of outstanding care providers at the Hillsborough County Nursing Home, Unit A-1.
