Barbara F. Massey
Barbara F. Massey, 86, of Nashua, died January 24, 2022 at St. Joseph Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on June 5, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Rollin and Catherine (Flaherty) Griffin. She was a graduate of St. Joseph High School, Manchester and earned her degree in education from Mt. St. Mary’s College, Hooksett.
Barbara worked as a reading educator and mathematics teacher for first grade students in Avon, CT for many years, as well as in Litchfield and Hudson. She later devoted her life to her husband and their children as a homemaker, but her passion for educating young people and building their foundations for reading was always very strong. She went on to substitute teach in Hudson and then title 1 until her retirement in 1995.
Barbara was an avid reader of mystery novels. She enjoyed being a homemaker and was an excellent cook. Above all else, she will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, teacher and friend.
Surviving family members include her husband of 54 years, Kenneth J. Massy of Nashua; two sons, John K. Massey and wife Elizabeth (Peterman) of Milford, and Paul G. Massey and wife Valerie (Wong) of Charlottesville, VA; one grandson, Austin G. Massey of Milford; two brothers, Robert E. Griffin of Manchester and James J. Griffin and wife Deborah (Socha) of Epsom; and one nephew, Jeffrey Griffin and wife Kelley of VA. She was predeceased by both parents; and one brother, Francis W. “Sonny” Griffin in 2021.
SERVICES: There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 31st, at St. Joseph Church Chapel, 145 Lowell St., Manchester, NH 03104 where masks would be greatly appreciated. Burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, 448 Donald St., Bedford, NH 03102.At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Society of Little Flower, St. Theresa Child of Jesus, 131 N.
