David McVickar Wright

Feb 5, 2022

After what he called a “full and interesting life” and having “no regrets” David McVickar Wright, formerly of Nashua, passed away January 26th at the age of 89 at Ledgewood Bay in Milford, NH. He was born in Cambridge, MA on July 23, 1932 to the late Donald and Lucia (Durand) Wright. His family moved several times during his childhood and lived in MA., NYC, and Michigan. However, they spent every Summer on their family farm in Francestown, NH for which he had fond memories.

After attending Bates College for two years he joined the army during the Korean war and served for two years. He married his beloved wife of 65 years, Adrienne Wright, on August 6th, 1955. They moved to Brooklyn, NY where he received his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design at Pratt Institute. They started their family of six children there. After graduating they moved to Warwick, RI for 6 years before settling in Nashua, NH where they lived in the same house for 55 years before moving to Ledgewood Bay. He spent his Summers at their beach house in North Kingstown, RI.

He was able to indulge his love of traveling through his job as International Marketing Manager for Nashua Corporation. He held several other jobs in sales before his retirement.

He was a hardworking intelligent man of high moral integrity who lived an active life. He had a great sense of humor and an amazing ability to adapt to any situation that was handed to him, without any complaint. He always found the good in life and had an attitude of gratitude.

He was willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He was very helpful at home and would do everything from cleaning the house, laundry, cooking, changing diapers, bottle feeding, lawn work, chopping wood, shoveling the driveway and roof.

He was an incredibly involved Dad who loved adventure and trying new things. He taught his six kids to snow and water ski and took them hiking, biking, and skate boarding among many other activities. He introduced them to the arts taking them to a variety of performances and museums. He was a Cub Scout Troop leader. He was also involved with his grandchildren volunteering in their schools and taught history and social studies for five years to one of his grandsons who was homeschooled. He was very active in the Christian Science Church in Nashua for 55 years serving in many capacities including treasurer for many years. He was a ham and acted in community theatre and won best supporting actor for one of his roles.

He ate right and exercised his entire adult life to which he attributed his long life and was constantly telling anyone who would listen the importance of doing both. He loved to read and learn new things and was a history buff. He was an avid supporter of the arts attending plays, musicals, and symphonies, and in particular loved all classical music, his favorite being Bach. He loved to travel the world and made sure the family was able to experience that as well. His family was his pride and joy and he really did not need anything else outside of that, particularly in his waning years.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Adrienne and three siblings; Hastings Wright, Loyal Wright, and Lucia Wright Von Sander and their spouses. He is survived by his six children; Jordan Wright and his wife Jennie, Adrienne Colsia and her husband Wayne, Gary Wright and his wife Sherry, David Wright and his wife Nicole, Alison Wright and her husband Mark, and Heather Wright; nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren.
