Richard Irving Stanley

Nov 5, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Irving Stanley announce his passing on October 31, 2022. Dick, age 93, was born on March 30, 1929 in Tilton, NH to Irving and Frances Stanley.

He spent his youth in Nashua, NH, where he enjoyed sledding and caddying at the nearby Nashua Country Club. Dick joined the Merchant Marines and traveled the world working on the ships. He was then drafted into the Army for one year and was sent to Korea near the end of the war. On his return from the war, Dick provided the startup money for the family business, Stanley Elevator Company. He worked there alongside his father and brothers. He was a true “elevator man” through and through wearing many hats as the company grew.

Dick was adored by the people he worked with during his more than 60-year career. He treated every person he encountered with respect and empathy. He made people feel special by showing genuine interest in them and their families. Hundreds of Stanley Elevator employees spent their entire career with the company; a true testament to the way Dick treated people. Through Stanley Elevator, Dick’s legacy will continue to positively impact many more people and their families for years to come.

Dick married Delores Bourassa in 1969. They enjoyed 26 years of marriage until her passing.

His kind and compassionate nature made “Uncle Dick” a favorite with his nieces and nephews. His ever-present sense of humor made every family gathering more enjoyable. Dick especially loved spending time with his brothers, Warren and Bill. When those three brothers were together, the wisecracking never stopped. Through the years, Dick enjoyed boating with his family at Kinston Lake, golfing, dining out, and travelling.

Richard was survived by his special friend, Madeleine Dahl of Nashua, sisters-in- law Florence Stanley of Hudson and Sylvia Stanley of Melbourne FL, dear friends Dennis Ryder, Neil Hussey, and Neil’s sons Cory, Patrick, and Ryan, and many nieces and nephews: Mary Ann, Beverly, Roseann, Richard, Vicki, Nancy, Laurie, Kathleen, Mary, Amy, Paula, Michelle, Matthew, Peter, Marc, and Donna.

Along with his parents and wife, Dick was predeceased by his brothers, Warren Stanley and William Stanley, his special friend Eleonore Motzko, nephew William Stanley, Jr. and great nephew, Jeremy Richard Turner.

A Funeral Mass will be held St. Louis De Gonzague Parish, 48 West Hollis Street in Nashua, on Saturday, November 12, at 10:00 followed by internment at Holy Cross Cemetery on Ledge Road in Hudson.

In lieu of flowers you can make a donation, in his memory, to Girls Inc. of NH, Plus Company, or the Alzheimer’s Society.
