George Christo Pitarys

George Christo Pitarys, 85, of Nashua, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 4 at home while surrounded by his wife and family. Born on February 23, 1938 in Nashua, NH, he was the son of the late Christo and Xenia (Tassios) Pitarys.
George was a lifelong resident of Nashua and graduated from Nashua High School in 1956 where he was noted as “quiet but friendly, close companions are the rod and gun, well built with broad shoulders”. He served in the United States Air National Guard from 1961 to 1964 as an aircraft ground equipment repairman, A1C. E-4 on the 157th Material Squadron. From 1968 to 2000, he was the owner of George Pitarys Construction where he worked as the expert bulldozer and backhoe operator, and was also co-owner of Pitarys Homes Inc.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 720, and a parishioner of St. Philip Greek Orthodox Church in Nashua and the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Dracut. Over the years, he was also a part of the Northeastern Poultry Producers Council, Poultry Farmer 1948-1968, Future Farmers of America I, II, III, and Best Poultry Boy 1954. In his later years, George enjoyed gardening and working with sons on the old family farm on West Hollis Street where they operated a retail flower business serving the local community.
He is survived by his loving wife Fotene (Papafagos) Pitarys; sons Christo George Pitarys and Dimitrios George Pitarys; and daughter Xenia Ann Surwell. He is predeceased by his sister Dianne Macenas; and brothers James Pitarys and Peter Pitarys.
A visitation for George will be held Friday, June 9, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at St. Philip Greek Orthodox Church, 500 W. Hollis St, Nashua, New Hampshire 03062, with a funeral service to begin at 10:00 AM. Following the funeral service will be a burial at 11:15 AM at Woodlawn Cemetery, 101 Kinsley St, Nashua, New Hampshire 03060.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in George’s memory may be made to St. Philip Greek Orthodox Church, 500 W. Hollis St, Nashua, NH; and The Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 1160 Mammoth Road, Dracut, MA.
