Evelyn Mae (Nelson) Walker

Dec 4, 2023

Evelyn Mae (Nelson) Walker, age 79, of Nashua passed away on December 1, 2023. Evelyn was born in Manchester, on March 3, 1944, to the late Myles Nelson and Louise (Holton) Nelson.

Evelyn grew up in Londonderry, NH on her father’s farm until she was an early teen. She spent the remainder of her teens in Manchester and Nashua. During her senior year, Evelyn worked as a live in nanny for family friends who worked evenings and weekends. Evelyn graduated from Nashua Senior High School in 1963. She then went to work full time at Nashua Manufacturing while living with her sister in Londonderry.

Evelyn met her future husband, Jim Walker in the fall of 1964 on a blind date. They were engaged by December and on June 19, 1965, Jim and Evelyn were married at the Presbyterian Church in Londonderry, NH.

Once her young daughters were both in school full time, Evelyn worked for several manufacturing companies throughout the Nashua and Hudson areas. Evelyn worked for Delta Education Inc. (later operating as School Specialties) for over 30 years and retired in 2009.

Jim and Evelyn spent many years camping in the White Mountains of NH with their daughters as they were growing up. After their daughters were grown, Jim and Evelyn still spent time in the Lincoln, NH area and Wells Beach ME on vacations. They also did a bit of travelling to include trips to Las Vegas, Florida, and a few trips to the Island of Aruba.

Evelyn was an avid reader of novels and a knitter. Everyone who went to a baby shower knew when they opened “Aunt Evelyn’s gift” it would be her pastel rainbow knitted baby blanket. With her name tag carefully sewn onto it.

Evelyn’s greatest joy was being Grammie to her four grandchildren. Grammie and Papa took all four of their grandchildren on vacations and day trips to include The Friendly Farm and spent many summer days at the pool where they lived.

Evelyn went to every event her grandchildren were involved in whether, playing sports, performing in plays or other school activities.

Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Jim, of nearly 58 years, whom passed away in May 2023.

Evelyn is survived by her two daughters, Kelly St. Pierre (Joseph St. Pierre) of Bennington and Amy Walker (Mark Trudeau) of Nashua. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Emily Newell, and Zachary Newell, both of Nashua and Priscilla St. Pierre of Bennington. Evelyn was predeceased by her granddaughter Angel St. Pierre in August of 2022.

Evelyn is also survived by her sisters, Phila Brill of Manchester, Elizabeth Griffin of Westborough, MA and Jeanne Hanson of Nashua. She was predeceased by brothers, Robert and Yate Nelson and sisters, Phyllis Bourgault and Deborah Dionne.

Evelyn will be remembered by numerous friends, several sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews as well as neighbors and co-workers.

Family and Friends are invited to Evelyn’s visitation on WEDNESDAY, December 6th from 10 until 11:30 AM at ROCHETTE FUNERAL HOME AND CREAMTION SERVICES, 21 Kinsley Street, Nashua. Her funeral service will take place in the funeral home at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Nashua.
