Julie Kelly

Jun 11, 2024

Julie Kelly (Parasidou), 78, of Merrimack, New Hampshire, died suddenly on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Elliot Hospital in Manchester, New Hampshire. She spent her last days surrounded by her loved ones after an 8-month battle with acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

Julie was born April 4, 1946, in Thessaloniki, Greece to the late Dimitrious and Loukia Parasidou. She attended Anatolia College in Thessaloniki where she played basketball. After college she worked for NATO as a translator. While she was working for NATO in Turkey, she met Tom Kelly of Lakeville Connecticut. They were married in Thessaloniki Greece and soon after moved to Massachusetts where they had three children. They later moved to Nashua New Hampshire in the 1980’s and remained there to raise their family. Julie and Tom later divorced, and Julie moved to Merrimack, New Hampshire where she resided until her death.

Julie was a dynamic woman with a feisty personality. She had lots of energy and enjoyed working in retail for the last 35 years. Not knowing that she had AML, she worked until the summer of 2023, when she became too sick and tired to work anymore and was diagnosed only a few months later.

After being diagnosed with AML, Julie spent 2 months fighting it at Mass General Hospital. At one point in early January 2024, it was believed that she would succumb to the AML and was discharged to Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH. However, she made a remarkable recovery and 10 days later she was discharged to The Arbors of Bedford for nursing care. Julie won the hearts of all the staff through her fierce desire for independence, dignity and determination to get well. She entertained all the staff and kept them on their toes with her sharp wit, infectious smile and sense of fashion. She was up every morning at 5:00 am for her morning walk around the facility when only 2 months earlier she was too frail to get out of bed at times.

Eventually she was discharged from nursing care and returned home. She was so happy to have regained her independence and was elated to be back in her own home, tending to her plants and flowers and working toward living her normal life again. She was eager to make plans to go to her favorite spot for dinner, Pizzico in Merrimack, NH, with friends where she was known and loved by the staff.

Julie was a strong, independent woman who loved her family very much and was proud of them all. She left behind three loving sons Michael Kelly of Merrimack, NH, Jim Kelly of Boston, MA and Kevin Kelly of Nashua, NH, two grandchildren, Matthew and Mikey and Mikey’s wife Jacki as well as her loving older brother Nuli and his wife Eleni of Thessaloniki Greece, their two daughters Loukia and Evangalia and their respective daughters Sofia-Eleni and Lydia of Athens Greece.

Julie’s immediate family and some of her family from Greece said goodbye to her with much love and sorrow during a private service held at Davis Funeral Home on Friday May 24, 2024.

We will all continue to celebrate Julie’s zest for life with love and fondness going forward.

Goodbye mom, we love you.
