Susan F. McGowan

Susan F. McGowan, 72, of Hudson, NH passed away on Saturday, July 27th, 2024 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH after a period of declining health.

Born in Buffalo, NY on January 24th, 1952, Susan was one of eight children to the late Frank and Mary (Thompson) Smith. She was raised in Strykersville, NY and graduated from Pioneer Central School in Arcade, NY. Susan received her bachelor’s degree from Rivier University, and later attended Lesley College where she received her master’s degree in education.

Susan was a teacher at Griffin Memorial School in Litchfield for over 20 years. She taught in the primary grades until her retirement in 2014.

When she wasn’t working, Susan enjoyed baking, researching genealogy, fishing, music, reading and spending time with her family.

Along with her parents, she was pre-deceased by five brothers, Art, Clarence, David, Ellsworth and Eddie Smith.

She will be forever loved and remembered by her four children, Robert McGowan and his wife Keri, Tom McGowan, Heather and her husband Sean Duffy, and Megan and her husband Matt Smith; six grandchildren, Josh and Jack Duffy, Julia and Robert McGowan, and Evie and Deacon Smith; her former husband, Douglas McGowan; two siblings, Carl Smith and Mary McCutcheon along with many nieces and nephews.

In accordance with Susan’s wishes, there will be no services.

Susan’s family will be forever grateful to the staff at the Community Hospice House for the kind and loving care they provided in her final days.
