Brian Othot

Aug 10, 2024

Brian passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2024 surrounded by people who loved him. Brian lived in Old Orchard Beach, Maine and grew up in Hudson, New Hampshire.

Brian is predeceased by his father, Richard L. Othot, and his brother-in-law, Timothy R. Sabol. He is survived by his wife of nearly 11 years, Elizabeth Gotthelf-Othot of Old Orchard Beach, ME, his mother, Jane E. Othot of Hudson, NH; older brother Steven Othot of Temple, NH, sister Sharon Sabol of Dunbarton, NH, and twin brother Jason Othot of Old Orchard Beach, ME. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Martha Gotthelf of Bozrah, CT; and sister-in-law Carrie Gotthelf and family of Encinitas, CA; as well as several loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

Brian was born on March 13, 1975, about five minutes after his twin brother Jason. The twins shared a unique bond, were business partners, and inseparable best friends.

Brian enjoyed spending time outside, making people laugh with his dry wit, cooking and exploring new recipes, quoting his favorite movies, and following Boston sports.

An avid hiker, Brian climbed the forty-eight 4,000-footers in the NH White Mountains. Brian and Liz enjoyed hiking in Acadia National Park in October to celebrate their wedding anniversary and the end of the summer season. In the winter, Brian enjoyed riding his electric bike, and after the snow fell, cross-country skiing and snow shoeing.

Brian was a sensitive and caring soul. He quietly helped others. He was not boastful, and often downplayed the tremendous impact he had on the people he helped. During a time that he was searching for more meaning in his life, he connected with members of the homeless outreach at the Rock Church of Greater Portland and made meals for people living in homeless encampments. His hotdogs and beans were a favorite among those he served, and often requested.

The Rock Church became an important part of his life, and he appreciated the support of the men’s group as well as the greater church community. He made friends at the church who stood by him literally until his last day.

Brian was a loyal and devoted husband who enjoyed doting on his wife. He would slip love notes in her lunch bag, prepare her afternoon coffee just the way she liked it, and compliment her daily.

He was a talented musician, playing guitar and drums, and overcame his shyness to impress the crowd when he sang Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” at Karaoke.

A celebration of life service will be held on Oct. 19, 2024 at The Rock Church in Scarborough, ME. It is tentatively scheduled for noon. A graveside service will be held on Oct. 22, 2024 at St, Patrick’s Cemetery in Hudson, NH. Attire is as you wish, casual or formal, as Brian would want his guests to be comfortable.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Saco Food Pantry, an organization with a mission that was close to Brian’s heart. http://www.sacofoodpantry.org
