Elizabeth “Betty” (Osborn) Dishong
Elizabeth “Betty” (Osborn) Dishong, beloved mother and grandmother, 84, passed away in Jaffrey, NH. after a long illness. She will be sorely missed. Betty was born in Cleveland, OH. on July 16, 1940. She was the daughter of the late Margaret McKinley and Walton Orville Osborn. Betty was a graduate of Curwensville High School and received an associate degree in accounting at Hesser College in New Hampshire. She married Paul Dishong in 1960, with whom she had two children, Yvette Marie, and René Paul. She started her own business Birch Knoll Bookkeeping which she ran for many years. She was a kind and generous mother, grandmother, and community member with interests in cooking, nature, gardening, church activities and volunteering. She was active with the Milford First Baptist Church and the Deering Community Church. Betty was a strong believer that women should be independent and have their own livelihood. She encouraged her children and grandchild to explore their interests, taught us to love good cooking, and to explore the world around us. Her favorite memories with her grandchildren include trips to the Nutcracker Ballet in Boston, and Hershey Park in Pennsylvania. We all remember many happy meals together, especially roast beef and Yorkshire pudding on Christmas Eve and big Thanksgiving dinners. The squirrel experiment may be forgiven someday. Betty is survived by her son René P. Dishong and his wife Carol Taylor-Dishong, granddaughter Catherine R. and grandson Jon-Paul T. of New Ipswich, NH; daughter Yvette M. of Bradford, NH, granddaughter Carina Desmarais and grandson-in-law Adam Hinkhouse of Overland Park, KS; and her brother James Osborn of Concord, MA. In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her brothers Tom M., John W., and Mark A.
