Philip Kaplan
Philip Kaplan passed only days after celebrating his 99th birthday with four generations in attendance. His family will learn to go on without their Elder who shared his cheerfulness, joy, warmth, humor and intelligence. He was a good man, a gentleman, a scholar, a disciplined athlete, an honest man, plain-and-simple. He touched most that met him. We are rich to have had him in our life.
Born in Brooklyn NY in 1925, Philip studied at a yeshiva and then graduated with a B.S. in Mathematics from City College of New York. During a world tour, he met his wife-to-be in a cafe on the Left Bank of Paris. But it was not until his army service was completed could he bring Marie Magdaleine Vallat to the US to start their lives together. His career as an Engineer working on the naissance of sonar and radar brought him to Nashua NH, where he lived for the last 67 years. His accomplishments were many but most important to him were spending time with friends and family, his partnership with his wife whom he respected and admired, and maintaining his beautiful home that welcomed all.
Philip was predeceased by his wife Marie Magdaleine and survived by his three children: Daniel Irving Kaplan, Dolores Vallat Ferdon and Claudine Adreinne Kaplan; 6 grandchildren: Tahlia Kaya LaRose, Jean Philip Larose, Savannah Kuehn Kaplan, Chloe Rose Kaplan, John Jay Ferdon and Danielle Vallat Ferdon; and three great grandchildren: Niko Lynch, Veda Lynch, and Aurora Lynch. Philip also leaves his sons-in law Henry Patterson and Timothy Jay Ferdon, daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Jean Kaplan, and grand son-in-law Jesse Lynch.
With gratitude we thank the whole team at Merrimack Home Health and Hospice. Additionally, our deep appreciation goes to Nancy Maina, Ana Kravitz and Louise Simmons. They cared for him like he was a king.
