Richard “Dick” O. Lahue Jr.

Nov 19, 2024

Richard “Dick” O. Lahue Jr., 82, of Nashua, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at his home after a brief illness. He was born in Lowell, MA on December 10, 1941, to the late Richard and Mary (Spencer) Lahue.

Dick graduated from Chelmsford High School with the Class of 1961 and went on to served in the National Guard and Army Reserve from 1964 to 1970. He was employed by the United States Postal Service (in one capacity or another) starting in 1966 until his passing.

Dick was the husband of Carol A. (Loop) Lahue for whom he was married to for 59 years. They were longtime residents of Chelmsford before moving to Nashua in 1999.

Dick was known as a master storyteller. He told many stories about growing up as a child in Chelmsford Center. This is where at age 11, he started working at Eriksen’s General Store where he stocked shelves, delivered groceries and received life advice from the stores owner, Henry Eriksen, who became Dicks lifelong best friend. On Saturdays, Henry would have to remind him to “go get the beans” from Ruby Emery’s Millhouse Bakery. In 1965, he started his own taxi business called, The Village Cab. By 1966, he decided to take the Postal exam, which resulted in Dick becoming a mail carrier at the Chelmsford Post Office and soon after, the Westford Post Office. For the next 32 years, he became the mail carrier we all dream of: dependable, friendly, and knowing exactly which house had the best fudge at Christmas time. His coworkers at the Westford Post Office will truly miss istening to all of his stories and his fatherly advice.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Nashua along with the Chelmsford Historical Society, and the United Commercial Travelers.

In addition to his wife Carol, Dick is survived by his children Scott Lahue of Nashua, and Kathleen Boyle of Greenville, SC; his former son in law Dave Boyle of Zephyrhills, FL; he was a Grampy to his five grandchildren Debony Caunter and her husband Wesley, Shawn Boyle, Rose Lahue, Tyler Boyle, and Bryan Boyle and was a Great Grampy to Eleanore Caunter, Levi Boyle, and Oliver Caunter. He was predeceased by his daughter Leeann Lahue.
