Douglas H. Starr
Douglas H. Starr, 70, of Merrimack, NH died suddenly at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, NH on December 16, 2024.
He was born in White Plains, NY on Aug. 16, 1954 a son of the late William G. and Elizabeth “Betty” J. (Scott) Starr. He was raised in Mamaroneck, NY where he was a decorated tennis player and attended Rye Neck High School where he played football. He attended Bucknell University when he began volunteering as a firefighter and would return to Mamaroneck to become captain of the Mamaroneck Village Fire Department. He received a master’s degree in environmental engineering from Manhattan College.
Doug moved to Merrimack, NH in 1986. He was currently the Environmental Permits and Program Coordinator for the City of Nashua, NH and he was also the former Public Works Director for the town of Merrimack and served as Town Engineer for Jaffery, NH. He worked on the Merrimack Conservation Commission and coached Merrimack Youth Association basketball and baseball for many years. He never gave up his love of firefighting, always had a fire and police scanner near him.
A deeply loving and charitable husband and father, members of his surviving family include his wife of 39 years Katherine (Taylor) Starr and two sons Eric and Jeffrey. He was preceded in passing by his late son Brian.
Memorial calling hours will be held in the Rivet Funeral Home & Crematorium, 425 Daniel Webster Hwy, Merrimack, NH on Friday January 3, 2025 from 4 – 7 PM. A Graveside service will be held in Last Rest Cemetery on Saturday January 4, 2025 at 10 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
