Lois Crocker Davenport

Dec 20, 2024

Lois Crocker Davenport, born in 1936 in Somerville, MA, died peacefully in her sleep on October 12th of this year after living with Alzheimer’s disease for several years. She was 87. She is survived by her sister, Carol Hayward; children, Dr. Donna Davenport and Captain Aaron Davenport, United States Coast Guard (retired) and wife Kendra; and grandchildren Kaylee, Tatum, Payton, and Aelish.

Lois was married for 28 years to Carlton Phillips Davenport (deceased). They met in college and lived together in Newark, NJ; Bedford and Chelmsford, MA; Mayaguez, Puerto Rico; and Westford, MA. Lois attended Bates College, Columbia University, and Inter American University in Puerto Rico, among other colleges, pursuing both undergraduate and graduate schooling, earning degrees and certifications in nursing, social work, and school psychology.

Lois spent most of her life helping others. As a Registered Nurse, she worked in Obstetrics, then directed a nursing school in Waltham, MA. She worked at Sutton Elementary School, then Lunenberg Public Schools hired her as an elementary school guidance counselor and school psychologist. Lois retired from Lunenberg school system and enjoyed a long retirement in beautiful Ledgewood Hills, Nashua, NH, where she worked as a divorce mediator, then volunteered for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).

Lois was a voracious reader and bridge player and rarely missed completing the NY Times crossword puzzle. She loved her Sunday morning Boston Globe as much as her special dogs and cats over the years, Blitz, Rocky, Candy, Daisy, Sundance, Tabby, and Rosie, to name a few. She loved to travel and enjoyed any chance she got to go sailing.

SERVICES: Lois’s life will be celebrated with family and friends at Visitation Hours 10:00-noon on Sat., Jan. 11 at the Davis Funeral Home, One Lock Street, in Nashua, NH. In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations in her name to the Amedisys Foundation, 3854 American Way, Suite A, Baton Rouge, LA 70816, a wonderful hospice organization, which cared for her lovingly at the end of her life at Nashua Crossings. An online guestbook can be found at www.davisfuneralhomenh.com (603)883-3401 “ONE MEMORY LIGHTS ANOTHER.”
