Robert Alfred Garneau
Robert Alfred Garneau, 82, of Merrimack, NH, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 7, 1942, in Lawrence, Massachusetts, he was the beloved son of Alfred and Elizabeth (Black) Garneau.
Robert was a devoted husband to Margaret (Watson) Garneau. The couple celebrated 55 wonderful years of marriage, having tied the knot on July 20, 1969.
A graduate of Tenney High School in Methuen, MA, Bob furthered his education at Lowell Technical Institute in Lowell, MA, earning a Bachelors of Science in Plastics Engineering. He proudly served his country for 22 years in the United States Air Force, deploying for one tour in Vietnam, and retiring as a Captain. During this time, he also served his community as a volunteer firefighter in Destin, Florida. Following his military service, Robert continued to serve the public for an impressive 28 more years working for the Federal Emergency Management Agency as a Radio Telecommunications Specialist and Supervisor with the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Robert was a man of many talents and passions. He was an accomplished leather crafter and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking and was a longtime member of the Appalachian Mountain Club. A proud Eagle Scout, Bob remained deeply involved in scouting throughout his life, contributing to the Daniel Webster Council and inspiring countless young people. He demonstrated his commitment to discipline and self-improvement by earning a second-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Bob also took an active role in preserving history through his work with the Nashua Historical Society and gave generously of his time by volunteering with the American Red Cross for over 50 years. In his retirement Robert took an avid interest in languages and music by learning to speak French and how to play the guitar and ukulele. He will be greatly missed in his many roles.
Robert is survived by his wife, Margaret Garneau, son Alex Garneau and his wife Lindsay, his grandson Connor Garneau, and nieces Jeanne Page, and Barbara Hamilton.
SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2025, between 4-7 pm at the Davis Funeral Home, 1 Lock St, Nashua, NH, 03064. A graveside service will be held Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the New Hampshire State Veterans’ Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy, Boscawen, NH 03303, at 12 pm.
