Laurence Charles “Larry” Szetela

Laurence Charles “Larry” Szetela, 75, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts surrounded by his loving family. He is the beloved husband of Carol (Long) Szetela with whom he shared 46 years of marriage.

Laurence was born in Watertown, New York on August 13, 1949, and was the son of the late Charles J. and Leona (Sabanski) Szetela. He was a graduate of Bangor High School in Bangor, Maine and continued his education receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Maine, Orono. He proudly attended and graduated Bentley College with his Master’s degree is Taxation.

He began his 40-year CPA career working as the Senior Tax Manager for O’Brien Fitzgerald Taylor in Waltham, MA and then was a tax partner at Melanson Greenwood CPA. In 1996, Larry established his own business which he owned and operated for over 25 years.

Larry always looked to give back to his community and was involved in several local organizations. He was a member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer for Big Brother Big Sisters, a Board President for three years for Nashua Youth Council and was a member of the Planning Board for many years at the Nashua Senior Center.

In his free time, Larry was an avid outdoorsman. He was a skilled hiker and a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club during which time he led several camping and climbing expeditions. Larry also enjoyed mountain biking and skiing. When not exploring outdoor activities, he was a luxury car enthusiast. BMW, Lexus, Porsche and Range Rover were the cars that caught his eye the most. Larry thoroughly enjoyed broadway music but especially loved the Sound of Music. Above all else, Larry cherished time spent with his family.

Larry is survived by his wife Carol; his daughter Amy Muir and her husband Michael of Walpole, MA; his two grandchildren Nolan Muir and Teagan Muir; his brother Dr. Brian Szetela and his wife Rebecca of Acton, MA; his nephew Daniel Szetela of Washington, DC; and his four in-laws Nancy Cote and her husband Raymond of Lowell, MA, Susan Magiera and her husband James of Mont Vernon, NH, David Long of Dracut, MA, and Diane Long and her partner Annette Paul of Nashua, NH.

At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers please make a donation to Big Brother Big Sister or the Nashua Senior Center.

Relatives and friends are invited to Larry’s visitation on WEDNESDAY, January 15th from 4PM until 7PM at ROCHETTE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 21 Kinsley Street,
