Harry Strai Tobiassen
Harry Strai Tobiassen, age 98, of Nashua, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on January 8, 2025. He was born on August 16, 1926, in Strai, Norway to Erling and Mathilde (Olsen) Tobiassen. A beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Harry lives on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Harry grew up in Norway and at the age of 21 came to America “just for a year”. In that year he fell in love with Olaug, a fellow Norwegian. They married in 1953 and raised two daughters on Long Island, NY. Harry was a hard worker. He and his business partner started their own carpentry contracting, building construction, and realty companies. Over the next 50 plus years, they built hundreds of homes on Long Island. Harry loved music and played several instruments by ear. Being a good Norwegian, Harry was an avid skier; family will remember him yodeling as he skied into his 80’s. He loved being close to the ocean and enjoyed sailing. In addition to his family, God and the church played an important role in his life. Most notably, Harry loved meeting people and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He had a great sense of humor, positive outlook on life, and a special way of making everyone feel comfortable.
He was predeceased by his wife, Olaug, his parents, and his siblings, Ruth, John, and Jens. Harry was a proud father of Ann Roach (Don) and Susan Lauer (Kurt). He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Sarah Willey (Kevin), Brian Roach (Anna), Emily Laird (Luke), Fritz Lauer (Molly Baechtold), and Kristen Lauer (favorite canine, Tiki). Harry was blessed with seven great-grandchildren, Marit, Odin, and Mabel Willey; Finley and Millie Roach; and Zoey and Berit Laird.
Harry Tobiassen’s memory will live on through the love and kindness he shared with everyone around him.
