Joyce Ellen (Downey) Campbell

Joyce Ellen (Downey) Campbell, 88, died January 19, 2025, at her residence at Langdon Place in Nashua, NH. She was born on July 16, 1936, in Brighton, MA, the daughter of the late Charles Downey and Naomi (Haverstock) Downey. She was the wife of the late Raymond Leo Campbell of Brighton, MA, and mother to Neal Campbell of Nashua, NH. Joyce and Ray were married on May 15, 1955, in Brighton, MA, and spent most of their 45-year marriage residing in Nashua, NH.

Joyce graduated from Brighton High School and worked as a bank teller for ~20 years at various companies. Upon the birth of her son, Neal, she became a full-time homemaker attending to the family and household pets. After Neal left for college, she returned to the bank teller role for another 12 years before retiring in 2005 at the age of 69.

Joyce loved reading and writing. She spent time in the house or in the backyard immersed in a book or putting pen to paper, writing stories and poems about the world, her beloved pets, or her life experiences. Upon retirement, she took senior college courses at Rivier College. At these courses, she continued expressing herself through poems, often having them go to print in their Literary Journal.

Joyce also loved spending time with her dear friends, going on long walks with her dog of 16 years, Peanuts, watching sports (mostly the Red Sox), and sometimes visiting the casino. She also considered herself a “Tom boy” in her youth, playing as many pickup sports as possible in basketball and baseball since they were not offered in school at that time.

She was predeceased by her loving brother Mervin Downey. Joyce is survived by her son – Neal Campbell of Nashua, NH, Daughter-in-law – Stacy Campbell, Grandson – Zachary Campbell and Granddaughter – Raegan Campbell. She is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews that brought her happiness over the years.

SERVICES: Visitation will be on Monday, January 27, 2025, from 5 PM – 7 PM, at Davis Funeral Home, One Lock Street, Nashua, NH. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 10 AM at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 777 West Hollis Street, Nashua, NH. Interment will follow at St. Louis De Gonzagues Cemetery, 752 W. Hollis Street (Right across the street from the church) Family and friends are invited to attend.
