Mar 18, 2025

Nancy Eva (Stark) Bird passed away at the age of 89 on March 12, 2025 in Sierra Vista, Arizona. She was born at home to P. Clifton and Nellie (Uzdavinis) Stark on April 6, 1935 in Saugus, Massachusetts where she joined her older brother, Clif. Nancy graduated from Saugus High School in 1955. Her first job was the lunch counter at F.W. Woolworth in Lynn, Massachusetts. She then made vacuum tubes at CBS Hightron in Danvers, Massachusetts.

Nancy met Ron Bird at a party when he was brought along by a mutual friend. They married on April 7, 1956. Nancy always wanted to have four children – two boys and two girls and that is exactly what she got! They started out married life in Brockton, Massachusetts where they purchased their first home. They decided to move to New Hampshire and purchased their second home in Hudson in 1960. All four of their children graduated from Alvirne High School. They lived in Hudson until 1992 when they built their retirement home and moved to Sierra Vista, Arizona.

Nancy worked as a stay-at-home mom until Nancy and Ron started Acfast Appliance Service in 1972 in Manchester, New Hampshire. Nancy managed the office, scheduled the service calls, ordered parts, and kept the business organized while Ron ran the service calls. They moved the business to Cote Business Park in Goffstown, New Hampshire in 1982 where they stayed until they retired in 1992. They sold the business to their daughter, Karen and husband, Bryan, who continued operations for another 30 years.

Nancy loved to bowl and play cribbage. She had a fondness for dragons and collected dozens of figurines during her life. Ron framed several finished dragon puzzles for her. As a child, she took piano lessons, and throughout her life played her favorite songs, notably “Peg O’ My Heart.”

Nancy and Ron loved to travel around the country in their motor home. They also enjoyed trips to Hawaii and California. In 2011, Nancy braved a trip with her granddaughter, Sarah, to England where Nancy’s daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Bob, were temporarily working. She loved seeing the sites and learning about English history and culture.

Nancy was a skilled craftswoman in knitting, cross stitch, handmade 3D greeting cards, and most prolifically, plastic canvas. She created countless treasures of these mediums for family and friends over the decades of her life, always working on something, whether it was for a birthday or anniversary, for Christmas, for a wedding or birth of a child, or just to do something special for someone. Creating things for family and friends was one of her greatest passions, and each piece was an expression of love.

Nancy is predeceased by her parents, brother and sister-in-law (Clif and Ida Stark), and son-in-law Bob Little. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ronald J. Bird; son Larry Bird of Boscawen, New Hampshire; daughter Sandra Little of Sierra Vista, Arizona; daughter Karen (Bryan) Southwick of Weare, New Hampshire; and son Alan Bird of Sierra Vista, Arizona; 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and nephew Matthew Stark of Northumberland, New Hampshire.

Private services will be gravesite in Derry, New Hampshire at a later date.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the angels at Valor Hospice, Sierra Vista, Arizona, for their care and support.
