John Peter Viliesis

John Peter Viliesis passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025 at the age of 63 in New Hampshire of Frontotemporal Dementia. He will be remembered for his grace, generosity, friendliness and kindness to everyone he met, and will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Born on January 9, 1962 in Northampton Massachusetts, the son of Vitie George Viliesis and Helmi Wiinikainen Viliesis. John never forgot his Finnish roots in West Barnstable Massachusetts and spent a lot time visiting his parents and extended family. Some of John’s fondest memories were with his children enjoying the beaches, quahogging and visiting family on Cape Cod. John had three passions throughout his life; skiing from the age of five he anticipated every ski adventure, meticulously watching weather reports for the best ski conditions. Early every spring he was on his bicycle, and cycled his final Prouty Road Race last August. John loved walking his Scottie dogs around his peaceful neighborhood and socializing with neighbors and friends. John grew up in Williamsburg Massachusetts and attended Hampshire Regional High School and graduated from Babson College. He then went on and earned an MBA from Northeastern University. After graduation John worked at Sanders Associates (BAE) in their Financial Management Program. Later in his career he held various financial positions all the way from Controller to Director of Financial Analysis to CFO in the defense industry or biotech and then retiring from MIT Lincoln Labs. John is survived by his wife of Stephanie (Penasack) Viliesis Brooks, with whom he married on June 9, 1990 in Hollis, New Hampshire; his daughter Emma Viliesis Brooks of Turners Falls Massachusetts and his son Peter Viliesis Brooks of Brooklyn New York. He also leaves his sisters: Ruth and her husband Doug Raponi of Beverly Massachusetts, and Alice and her husband Nadim Jamal of Falmouth Massachusetts, and their children Christian Jamal of New Orleans and Alexander Jamal of Watertown Massachusetts, as well as many Wiinikainen and Viliesis cousins.
A celebrations of John life will be held at a later date with his immediate family, in West Barnstable Massachusetts at Crocker Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Community Hospice House of Merrimack, New Hampshire. Assisting with arrangements is the Cremation Society of New Hampshire, Nashua.
