Thank you, Chief Brian Rhodes

By Staff | Feb 26, 2022

For more than 35 years, Brian Rhodes faithfully served the citizens of Greater Nashua. Last week, the Gate City’s fire chief worked his final shift, ending a storied and successful career.

Rhodes began his career in Nashua in 1987. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2000, captain in 2004, deputy chief in 2011, assistant chief in 2011 and chief in 2018.

“I have had the distinct honor and privilege of working with incredible people, both past and present,” Rhodes said upon his retirement.

While that certainly is true, Rhodes himself has influenced countless local firefighters, setting the ultimate example, serving as a role model to not only department members and aspiring firefighters, but also to those in our wonderful community.

Filling Rhodes’ shoes will not be easy; however, Nashua is fortunate to have another outstanding firefighter waiting in the wings.

Assistant Chief Steve Buxton will officially be sworn in as chief of the department on March 1.

“It is these dedicated people who perform extraordinary acts for our community every day,” Rhodes said of his firefighters. “Chief Buxton has prepared and performed his entire career for this moment. I couldn’t be happier for him and his family. I know he will excel as our 15th chief of department.”

We heartily agree with Rhodes, we are in good hands.

Today, though, we take pause to thank Chief Rhodes for his years of service and his many acts of heroism and kindness. We all should be thankful that we have had such a caring individual at the helm of our fire department. That will continue, as will the many contributions and legacy of Brian Rhodes. Thank you, chief!
