CHaD Game to be BG’s MacDonough, Baldiserri’s final chapter
BEDFORD – They were able to connect a few times when it counted for the Bishop Guertin High School football team last fall.
Maybe receiver Ronan Baldiserri and quarterback Michael MacDonough can do it one more time.
That would be in Friday’s annual CHaD East-West High School Football All-Star Game at Saint Anselm’s Grappone Stadium.
“I had this one play, Coach would put me in for that, I scored five or six touchdowns,” Baldiserri said. “It was pretty nice. As of right now, it’s looking like (Friday) I’ll be an outside receiver, hopefully score some touchdowns.
“And I get to play with Mike again, which is nice.”
MacDonough is headed to the University of Virginia, and is one of three quarterbacks on the Team West roster. But, like Baldiserri, this is his last hurrah. The duo will also be joined by another of MacDonough’s favorite targets, Connor Lennon.
“It’s nice to come out here, get another two weeks of football in, and play for a cause other than myself,” Baldiserri said. “It feels great to be able to raise money and just come out here.”
Baldiserri is following in the footsteps of another former BG standout, Jacob Baker, as he, too, is attending the University of Tampa – and like Baker, not play football.
He’ll be studying international business, “and hopefully travel and make some money.”
Baldiserri says he’ll miss football for certain.
“It hasn’t really set in yet, to be honest,” he said. “It normally comes around the end of summer, when I’m looking forward to the season. I’m not going to have that this year, it’s going to be a lot different. I think it will set in then. But not yet. I’ve still got this week, and I’ll make the most of it.”
Meanwhile, MacDonough will try to do the same. This is it for him in competitive sports.
“I’ve played sports basically my whole life, it’s always been a big part of my life,” he said. “So it’s definitely going to be different, I’m going to miss it a lot. But I’m excited for my next chapter.”
This is a good way, he feels, to end this current chapter.
“I think so, it’s a great way,” he said. “I get to play with some of the best players in the state, some of my teammates, and the Souhegan kids I played with in youth football with the Amherst Patriots. It’s great, it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
