Nashua South High School football coach Scott Knight was asked after Saturday’s convincing 41-15 win over Manchester Central whether or not he felt at the beginning of the season his team would be unbeaten through five weeks.

“You know, I don’t know,” South coach Scott Knight said. “We looked at the schedule, we knew Keene was going to be good. … BG we opened with them, and you don’t know what you’re getting. We looked at those teams, we saw Lowell, super athletic…It was kind of week-to-week. I thought we had a chance, they’ve done a good job. And of course North, that’s a rivalry game. And this one, (Central), they were 0-4, but you look at the film and they were moving the ball on everybody.”

The one thing that is helping the Panthers is depth on offense.

“I love the verstility of this group,” Knight said. “Sammy (Levine) on another team would probably run for 100-something (regularly) but he also plays defense, too.”

BIG WEEKEND FOR ANOTHER KNIGHT

Not only did Scott Knight enjoy a coaching victory, but so did his son Trevor. The former South and UNH standout QB picked up his first career win as a high school head coach this past weekend when his Dracut (Mass.) High School team. And it came in dramatic fashion, a 34-33 win over Boston Latin.

MILFORD STILL HAD HIGHLIGHTS

The results weren’t good (47-0), but Miford coach Max Morelli was able to note some players who did well.

He praised Eli Gutierrez, an offensive and defensive lineman who “played really hard.”

“He was good on offense,” the coach added, “and he was really impactful playing nose on defense. He had a great game, and it was great to see that.”

Morelli also noted freshman linebacker Jack Wilhelmi’s play, saying he’s been the team’s best player on defense. That says a lot, being a freshman.

That was West’s first win ever over the Spartans and it doesn’t get any easier with high powered Souhegan coming to town on Friday at 7 p.m.

SCHEDULE CHANGES

Remember, Nashua South will be headed to Winnacunnet Friday for what was originally scheduled a home game at Stellos, but was switched when Stellos was shut down on Wednesday for field safety reasons. Nashua North is at Londonderry as scheduled, but Bishop Guertin will play its home game Saturday night vs. Keene at Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass. at 7 p.m. Also, a reminder that Alvirne, after a tough loss at Londonderry, will play on this Thursday night at Spaulding at 6:30 p.m. Some games around the state are being played on Thursdays during the season due to officials availability.
