HS Football Roundup: Broncos roll past Keene; Sabers fall
The Alvirne High School football team had a Division I playoff berth clinched and Keene was trying to get a win to keep its postseason hopes alive, but you would have thought it was the other way around as the Broncos rolled to a win in Hudson.
Meanwhile, Souhegan lost its second straight game at home to a Division II contender. Here’s a look at those and a couple of other tough local defeats:
ALVIRNE 41, KEENE 12
Mike Landmesser rushed for 110 yards and two TDs as the Broncos improved to 6-2 in Division I, leading 34-0 at halftime.
They ended the game with a blocked punt Shawn Boudrea, recovered for a TD.
“We played a great first half,” Alvirne coach Matt Lee said. “We came out with great energy and focus. That was the most complete first half we have played this year.”
PELHAM 40, SOUHEGAN 26
The Sabers led 14-8 early in the second quarter but gave up three straight Python scores to fall behind 28-14 and were battling uphill the rest of the way.
Mike Fiengo hit Brayden Hickman on a 94-yard catch-and-run TD; he also found Brody Smith for a 16-yard TD. Smith also turned a high snap on a Pelham punt attempt into a scoop-and-score that gave the Sabers that early lead. Ryan Raudelanus also had a 4-yard TD run.
But the 7-1 Pythons’ Nate Migliore had three TDs, one on an interception return, while back Junior MacKinnon had a TD run and Justin Bowlan a 65-yard kickoff return for a score.
The Sabers, now 6-2, hope to get back on track in their regular season finale at Hollis Brookline on Thursday.
HANOVER 55, HOLLIS BROOKINE 29
The Cavaliers had their best offensive output of the season but fell short at Hanover, as they are now 0-8 and will try to avoid a second straight winless season when host Souhegan on Halloween night.
CONVAL 27, MILFORD 20
The Spartans played one of their closest games of the season, but fell short vs. the Cougars to fall to 1-7.
Milford wraps up the season next Thursday at Pelham.
