Girls X-C: White paces North to fifth; Souhegan fourth in Division II

Nashua’s Laura White was a cut above the dozens of local cross country runners as she was second overall in the Division I girls state championship race on Saturday at Manchester’s Derryfield Park, sparking the Titans to a fifth-place finish with 178 points. Bishop Guertin was right behind North in sixth, also at 178 but losing the sixth runner tiebreaker.
Pinkerton (92) took home the title, edging Exeter (93).
Elsewhere locally, Alvirne (189) was seventh while Merrimack was 14th (342) and Nashua South 15th (382).
White came in at 19:49.85, behind overall winner Mikita Barry of Bedford (19:18.79). Bishop Guertin’s Anna Fondakowski was fifth (20:28.82) and Anna Simpson of Alvirne was 10th (21:14.59).
Rosalie Neveu (21:37.14) and Claire Hathaway-rube (42, 22:56.41) were the Titans’ other top scorers in the top 50. Guertin’s were Lyla Masson (22, 21:40.77), Anna Sinclair (32, 22:23.17) and Shannon Forsyth (39, 22:48.88).
Alvirne had Ava Martin finisht 23rd (21:40.80) and Olivia Cartagena (24, 21:47.14) for a points boost. Sophia Berube was 49th. Merrimack had Zosia Yellin (63) and Samantha Hall (64) back-to-back, while Nashua South’s top runner was Katie Perry (34, 22:28.63).
DIVISION II
Souhegan (137) was fourth, way behind champion Hanover (30), which topped Oyster River (50) while Plymouth (111) was third.
Locally, Hollis Brookline was seventh (174) while Milford did not place as a team but Jaylyn Paul was 13th (21:47.89) as the second best local.
The Sabers were led by Samantha Swanbon (12th, 21:31.74) and Sarah Bryson (16, 21:57.30) in the top 20. Madelyn Mooney (41) also helped.
For HB, Mae Butler was its top runner in 23rd (22:55.31) with Hannah LaPointe (33, 23:44.49) also up there, along with Lucia Dunsmoor (40), Kylee Sorrell (47) and Sarah Bauer (49). That gave HB five in the top 50.
DIVISION III
Campbell (243) was ninth while Hopkinton (30) captured the title. Brianna Flanagan (36, 24:34.40) and Calleigh Duncan (48) were the Cougars’ top runners.
