HS Roundup: HB outwrestles BG; Cards get two hockey wins

It was a Wild Wednesday on the high school docket.

Besides hockey and wrestling, there were some key girls basketball tilts as well. In hockey, the BG boys got a big road win, and Alvirne-Milford just keeps on winning under interim coach Molly Norton. And the BG girls snapped their longest losing streak in several years.

But it was also a huge wrestling night, and in the annual dual meet battle between Hollis Brookline and Bishop Guertin, the Cavs prevailed.

Here’s the rundown on that Wild Wednesday before weather likely shuts down Thursday:

WRESTLING

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 53, BISHOP GUERTN 26

The Cavs got wins by Victor Lomme at 113 (pin), Hunter Knight at 126 (pin), Caden Bruseo at 138 (technical fall 18-1), Jacob Critchfield at 157 (pin), Martin Burns at 165 (pin), and Jacob Velez at 175 (pin).

For BG, James Algeo got a technical fall 15-0 win at 132, Finn Murphy a 7-1 decision at 144, and Jack Foster a pin at 150.

MERRIMACK 30, CAMPBELL 27

Wins for the Tomahawks were by Avery Berardinelli at 126 (pin) to go with several forfeits. Campbell wins were Logan Gillen at 132 (14-9 decision), James MacLean at 138 (pin), Logan Alaire at 175 (pin) and Jaydon Uccello at 190 (pin).

MERRIMACK 42, RAYMOND 22

In their other match in the tri-meet, the ‘Hawks got wins by Owen Sayball at 126 and Cooper Seltsam-Wilps at 215.

RAYMOND 35, CAMPBELL 30

All of Campbell’s points were on forfeits.

MILFORD 53, PORTSMOUTH 23

The Spartans prevailed in their final dual meet of the season with pins by Kiki Lordan (126), Cam Stickney (138), Phil Wright (150), Noah Kittredge (165), Jack Clancy (175), and Brandon Leeman (heavyweight). Other wins came from Jace Wilhelmi (6-5 decision) and Nate post (4-0 decision). They also got two forfeits.

Milford heads to Salem Saturday for a quad meet with Manchester Central and Memorial.

BOYS HOCKEY

BISHOP GUERTIN 4, HANOVER 3

Noah Cordiero’s third period goal was the difference for the Cards (10-3) for a a big win on the road, their sixth straight. Ryan Mogielnicki and Gavin Santos got assists.

Luca Ferrari, Jordan Delude and Mogielnicki gave the Cards a 3-0 lead with three second period goals before Hanover came roaring back. Bradyn MacLean also had an assist.

Conor Hayes got the win in goal for BG, which is at Bedford on Monday at Saint Anselm’s Sullivan Arena.

ALVIRNE-MILFORD 9, PORTSMOUTH-NEWMARKET 3

The Admirals outshot the visitors by a whopping 49-9 at Skate 3 to improve to 11-3 in Division II and clinch a first-round bye.

Braydon Atwood and Brandon Ganas each had two goals and two assists. Brandon Callahan, Mason Tomkins, Dylan Macleod, Landon Briand and Logan Howard also scored.

Briand, MacLeod, Luc Pelletier, Brandon Hiltz, Riley McCarthy, Bryce Larco and Nate Ricci also all had assists.

Mason Komarek had one save while Ari Scarbro had four in goal for the Admirals, who host unbeaten Oyster River on Saturday.

MERRIMACK-HB-DERRYFIELD 1, OYSTER RIVER 1

The WarHawks gave the Bobcats just their second blemish of the season (11-0-2) at the Whittemore Center.

MHBDS is now 8-4-2 and will be at Manchester on Saturday.

GIRLS HOCKEY

BISHOP GUERTIN 5, MANCHESTER 0

Scar Casey and Emily Powers combined in goal for the shutout as the Cards snapped a six-game losing streak.

Haley Gagne (goal, three assists), Carly Green (goal, assist), Grace Spengler, KateOskrko, Avaa Brennan (goal each) and Giadda Kennedy and Ari Pascik (assist each).

Now 3-10, the Cards host Salem on Saturday at Skate 3.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

CONCORD CHRISTIAN 67, NASHUA SOUTH 53

The Panthers fell to 6-9 despite 16 points from Addie Borden and 12 from Nicole De Jesus. Karina O’Donnell added eight and Lexi McGuire seven.

Concord Christian improved to 12-3. South will visit Dover on Friday.

ALVIRNE 55, MERRIMACK 52

The Broncos (9-6) had to withstand one of the Tomahawks’ best games of the year as Merrimack had a seven-point lead in the fourth quarter but couldn’t hold on.

Bronco Ella Hartson scored seven of her game-high 22 points in the fourth quarter, while Courtney Anderson added 11.

Abby Herod led Merrimack with 17 points while Meghan McCarthy had 13 and Avary Cruz 12. Alvirne hosts Dover on Tuesday while that night Merrimack (1-14) will try to snap a 12-game skid at Concord.

SOUHEGAN 57, JOHN STARK 26

The Sabers broke out to a 22-4 lead and never looked back, imoproving to 5-9.

Zofia Rosenfeld had 16 points, while Kayden Merriam added 10 and Tess Jancar (nine) and Lanai Hickman (eight) also chipped in. Hickman also held Stark scorer Alexis Corbet, the fifth leading scorer in Division II, to just three points.

Souhegan hosts Kennett on Friday.
