Nothing comes easy these days in high school basketball, including championships.
Just ask the Bedford High School boys team, which trailed Keene 46-39 after two Jamal Stanley free throws with 3:05 left, then went on a 10-2 run and eventually pulled out a 51-50 Division I championship win at the University of New Hampshire’s Lundholm Gym.
It wasn’t official, though, until Keene’s Kasen Abbott front-rimmed a potential 40-foot game winner at the buzzer.
It’s Bedford’s second title in the last three years, and with the Bulldog girls triumph on Saturday, Bedford becomes the official basketball capital of the state.
Keene’s Javon Massiah hit a 3-pointer just before the third quarter buzzer to give the Blackbirds a 34-32 lead heading into the final quarter. Keene led 25-20 at the half.
It certainly looked like it would be No. 6 Keene’s crown, but No. 1 Bedford took a 49-48 lead off a turnover/Ali Shoukier layup with 1:53 left.
Massiah led Keene with 19 points, the ‘Birds only double-figure scorer. Connor O’Rourke had 18 and Landon Ellsmore had 10 points for the Bulldogs, who dominated the boards, 53-32. Wiji Dak led Bedford with 14 rebounds.

The Spartans got 26 points from Andrew Fitzgerald en route to the title, cruising down the stretch.
Pembroke led35-33 at the half and 50-44 heading into the final quarter. Sanborn’s Chase Frizzell hit a 3-pointer that made it 52-49 with 6:31 left but the Spartans went on a 7-0 run to lead 59-49 with 2:03 to go.
