Silver Knights Notebook: Futures League unveils new logo

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Mar 18, 2022

NASHUA – The Futures Collegiate Baseball League may not have any new teams this season, but it will have a new look.

The FCBL, of which the Nashua Silver Knights are the lone remaining original member from its 2011 establishment, introduced a new logo on Thursday.

It features what the league called in a release “a collegiate style waving banner”, placed on top of a silhouette of the six New England states.

The league’s original logo basically just featured the New England states because that was its original focus, with roster requirements for players who either played for New England schools or were from New England. Now the player pool has expanded more nationally, but New England remains a point of emphasis.

When the league was created in 2011, Nashua was one of four franchises, the other three being the Seacoast Mavericks, which played at Spaulding High School; the Torrington (Conn.) Titans and the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks.

Of the other three, only Martha’s Vineyard remains as a franchise, but it now plays in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL).

“The Futures League is ecstatic to move forward into the 2022 season and beyond with our new logos,” league commissioner Joe Paolucci said. “We are proud of our roots in New England and wanted to keep the strong tie to the region that we love and call home apparent in these marks.”

The logo was created by Brian Bednarski, who worked with the league and its teams in the past on projects such as the logo in 2020 that commemorated the FCBL’s 10th season.

The league’s 12th season begins May 26, and Nashua will open up at home that night at 6 p.m. vs. the Pittsfield Suns. That’s just over two months away.

COLLEGE SEASON NEWS

The Silver Knights have done a good job this early spring of keeping fans updated on how their players are doing with their college seasons. At Wake Forest, catcher Chris Katz was on a tear, starting the season off by hitting .429.

In Division II, at nearby Saint Anselm College, closer Avery Mosseau of Bedford is having a dominant start as he had at last look a 0.82 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 11 innings, including five in a recent 2.2 inning stint.

At Division III’s Eastern Nazarene, outfielder Shane McNamara of Londonderry recently had a week in which he hit .375 through 16 at bats with two homers, five RBIs, three walks and a stolen base. He’s hitting .361 at last look with a .439 on base percentage.
