DURHAM – Grad student wide receiver Logan Tomlinson caught 10 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown and junior Nick Mazzie kicked four field goals to lead the University of New Hampshire football team to Saturday afternoon’s 33-20 victory against Monmouth University at Wildcat Stadium.

Mazzie was perfect on the day with field goals of 42, 35, 35 and 31 yards and three PAT kicks.

Senior quarterback Seth Morgan completed 25 of 40 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns. Redshirt freshman running back Denzell Gibson had 16 carries for 88 yards – both career highs – and scored his first career touchdown on an 11-yard run.

UNH’s defense forced three turnovers, all on fumble recoveries, to help limit a Monmouth offense ranked No. 4 in the nation in scoring (39.2 points per game) to 20 points.

Grad student safety Wande Owens recorded a team-high eight tackles, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble. Senior safety Brendan Tighe finished with seven tackles and a forced fumble. Brandon Perkins and Milford’s Gavin Urda had the other UNH fumble recoveries.

UNH improves to 6-4 overall, 4-2 in the CAA and 3-1 at home while Monmouth is now 4-6, 2-4.

The Wildcats got the ball back late in the first half at their 30-yard line with 1:53 on the clock and Mazzie’s 35-yard field goal extended the home team’s lead to 20-14 with 20 seconds remaining. Morgan-to-Tomlinson combined for a 26-yard gain on 3rd-and-10 from the MU 35 to extend the drive and set up the field goal.

UNH received the opening kickoff in the second half, drove 57 yards on 13 plays and held the ball for more than half the quarter as Mazzie’s 35-yarder pushed the lead to 23-14 at 7:07 and UNH never looked back.

New Hampshire returns to action next Saturday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day against Stony Brook University.
